How do we arrange a date for Baptisms/ Thanksgivings ?
When we receive a baptism/thanksgiving enquiry we suggest that families first join us for one of our main services to get a feel for the church. If we know that there is a child in church for the first time then we would always offer to pray a prayer of thanksgiving, protection and blessing for the child and its family. The Church Leadership Team normally sets the dates well in advance. We discuss dates with families when we watch the ‘First Steps’ DVD together. We encourage families to consider having the baptism/thanksgiving in one of our main services. If we take a baptism at another time we now invite the parents to bring their child the following week (or soon after) for the congregation to welcome the child into the family of the church and also to give parents their baptism certificate.

We live outside the parish. Can we still have our baby baptised?
Most baptisms are for people who either live in the parish or who are regular worshippers with
us (or both). Ideally people live locally or intend to make St Margaret's their home church. We often conduct baptisms for families who have had a previous link with the church community
(married in the church, another child baptised here etc) but if you life a long way away we
encourage you first to give proper consideration to using your local church.

Where can I get more information about baptism?
The Church of England website www.cofe.anglican.org/lifeevents has more details and if you contact our office we can send you leaflets for parents and godparents.
